Flight Travel Tips for Zurich

Zurich is a historic and wealthy city, and the largest in Switzerland, making it a top travel spot. It offers great sights and high-quality museums for a refined travel experience. If you prefer outdoor activities, the stunning Swiss mountains are nearby. Here are three interesting attractions in and around Zurich:

  • Kunsthaus Zürich. Open since 1910, this museum has expanded in 2020 and is one of the most important cultural sites in Switzerland. Art lovers will enjoy its impressive collection featuring works from famous artists like Munch, van Gogh, Magritte, and Rousseau.
  • Ethnographic Museum. This cultural museum explores the myths, rituals, and lifestyles of people worldwide. It includes exhibits on diverse groups, from the Arctic to North America’s Great Plains to the Himalayas and the Horn of Africa. Linked to the University of Zurich, it is located in Zurich’s Old Botanical Garden.
  • Bahnhofstrasse. This is Zurich’s main shopping street, popular for its luxury boutiques, fine restaurants, and high-end department stores.
  • Altstadt. Zurich’s old town features many historic buildings, churches, and attractions. Visitors can wander through narrow streets lined with colorful buildings and quaint cafes.
  • Grossmünster. This iconic church, built in the 12th century in Romanesque style, features two tall towers visible from across the city.
  • Uetliberg. Just a quick train ride away, Uetliberg offers stunning views of Zurich and the Swiss Alps. At the top, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the city, the Limmat River, and the surrounding countryside.
  • Lake Zurich. This beautiful lake is surrounded by hills and forests, extending over 25 kilometers. Picturesque towns like Rapperswil, known for its castle, and Küsnacht, with its elegant lakeside villas, line the shore. The lake provides plenty of water activities, including boating, swimming, and fishing.
  • Baden. A popular day trip, Baden is a historic spa town northwest of Zurich, known for its geothermal springs and beautiful castles like Stein Castle and Bailiff’s Castle, which also houses the Baden History Museum. It’s only about a 35-minute drive from Zurich.
  • The Rhine Falls. Located north of Zurich near Schaffhausen, this is one of Switzerland’s most impressive natural attractions. The powerful falls cascade down a rocky cliff, creating a massive roar heard from afar. At 150 meters wide and 23 meters high, it’s one of Europe’s largest waterfalls, drawing tourists worldwide.

Terminals of Zurich Airport

There are three passenger piers: A, B, and E, which are also referred to as gates, docks, or terminals.
Each of these piers is equipped with various amenities, including shops, restaurants, and lounges to enhance the travel experience.
All three are linked to the Airport Center building.
Passengers can easily check their flight information on large electronic boards located throughout the airport.
Gate A serves flights inside the Schengen Area, Gate B serves non-Schengen flights, and Gate E serves both Schengen and non-Schengen flights.
Travelers should allow plenty of time for security checks, especially during peak travel hours.
The easiest way to move between Gates A and B is to walk, while the best way to get to and from Gate E is to take the free Skymetro train, which runs every three minutes. Additionally, there are services available for passengers with reduced mobility to ensure their convenience.

Location

The airport is located 13 km (8 mi) north of Zurich city center. Motorway A1L and Wasserwerkstrasse are the main roads connecting Zurich Airport to the city.

Nearest gas station

BP gas station, located at Flughafenstrasse 79, can be reached in less than two minutes and is open 24/7. There are many other gas stations near the airport and in Zurich.
